Benjamin Reisterer, MA, LPC

Claystone Clinical Director

(He/Him/His)
Benjamin believes that the work of therapy requires a truly relational and vulnerable process: for both himself and those who invite him to come alongside their path. Because our patterns (relational, emotional, etc) tend to show up to varying degrees wherever we find ourselves, Benjamin strives to create an environment and relationship that is less “expert and client” and more about two humans committed to vulnerability by authentically relating to one another to explore what is unfolding. The work becomes less about “treating” people as objects to be “fixed” and more about “meeting” people in an authentic encounter that allows for natural processes of insight and transformation to occur. This authentic experience, that is co-created and held together, can then become a space where life, systems, structures, frustrations, joys, and patterns are examined, felt, grieved, celebrated, understood, and integrated; leading to a life that is more full and free in the world. He holds deeply to the idea that the work is less about “moving past”, “getting over”, or to “stop feeling” a certain way but more about cultivating a way of relating to what all of it is and means and facing the truth of what it holds. To put it simply, therapy is a collaborative process of turning towards, relating, experiencing, integrating, and living more fully, freely, and authentically in the world.

Benjamin has extensive experience walking alongside individuals through anxiety, depression, grief and loss, cultivating meaning and purpose, life changes, identity, relationship issues, and trauma among many other issues. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Michigan and a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Michigan Counseling Association (MCA). He holds a double major BA in Psychology and Family Studies and an MA in Counseling. Additionally, Benjamin has completed extensive training programs through the Contemporary Psychodynamic Institute in Relational Psychodynamic Therapy (RPT) and Relational Psychodynamic Therapy (RPT) Case Consultation and Supervision. In addition to working with individual adults, Benjamin enjoys working with colleagues to provide case consultation as well as supervision for Limited Licensed Counselors in Michigan. He is the founder and creator of MetaFi, an Android and iOS app designed to help users develop a practice that cultivates mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and body awareness. He is also a U.S. Navy SeaBee veteran of OEF Afghanistan.

Benjamin is available for speaking engagements on topics related to Relational Psychodynamic Therapy, Why Therapy Works, Supervision, and Case Consultation.
