Frequently Asked Questions
Are you currently accepting new clients?
Yes, we are currently accepting new clients. Feel free to check out our therapists' bios or reach out to us to schedule an initial appointment.
How long does a session last?
All sessions are 50 minutes in length.
What will the first session be like?
The first session will be a chance for you to tell your story and for you and your counselor to begin to establish the therapeutic relationship. At the end of the day, counseling is two human beings sitting in a room together and trying to connect. In order for it to be helpful it is very important that you feel a sense of safety and connection with your counselor. In addition to establishing the therapeutic relationship, you and your counselor will focus on what has brought you into counseling and what specific goals you would like to work toward.
How often will we meet?
You will begin by meeting with your counselor on a weekly basis. This is the most effective way for developing a therapeutic counseling rhythm.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Feel free to call or email us to get in touch.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, Check, Credit/Debit card, and HSA accounts are all acceptable forms of payment. Payment is taken care of at the start of each session.
Do you accept insurance?
Each counselor can accept different insurances, so please talk to the counselor you are going to be working with for more information regarding insurance they accept.
Is what we talk about confidential?
Almost always. In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a counselor. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule that are required by law. Your counselor will review all of this with you in your first session.
Will you offer referrals if you're not a good fit for me or if I need other services you can't provide?
Absolutely! We are well networked in the Grand Rapids area with a number of other counselors, psychiatrists and natural/holistic practitioners. We are committed to assisting people to find the help they need and part of that means being able to acknowledge when we might not be the best fit.
